The season is perfect. Niagara-on-the-Lake in early October absent of crowds encourages independent exploration. The remaining weeks of the Shaw Festival (an international draw) retain their vibrant productions. Three delectably diverse plays highlight our stay:

Oh What a Lovely War, a World War I musical follows a band of singing, dancing Canadian soldiers, is directed by Peter Hinton, who served as director of English Theatre at the National Arts Center in Ottawa

The Hound of the Baskervilles requires no further elaboration, so famous is the book by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. This production is directed by Canada's acclaimed Craig Hall, Artistic Director of Vertigo Theatre in Calgary.

Grand Hotel focuses on events taking place over the course of a weekend in an elegant hotel in 1928, Berlin. Eda Holmes, American born director began her stage career as a soloist for the San Francisco Ballet and Dutch National Ballet. She now holds directorial reigns, while retaining her post at Montreal's leading anglo-theatre, Centaur.

Accommodations at Queen's Landing whose four story brick Georgian facade opens to an interior grand staircase, set the tone for the gracious comfort found within. Located steps from the town center, it's an easy walk to theatre, restaurants and shopping.

Following three nights in post-card worthy Niagara-on-the-Lake, depart by private coach for Niagara Falls, Ontario, overlooking Horseshoe Falls, the cascades' most expansive section. Time to immerse in the wonder of the Falls, before continuing to Canada's largest city, Toronto, and to our accommodations at the InterContinental Toronto Yorkville.

Four nights, three full days here are focused on enjoying the unique delights of this major world-class city, many of which are found in the very fashionable neighborhood of Yorkville itself.
